I've had my eye on this one http://www.hellebores.co.nz/species/1119_Helleborus+cyclophyllus.html for years, but they have not been available. I wondered if I went down there they may have one hidden behind all the other lovely pots... Pansies are a long-time family obsession; my sister and I have planted so many kinds over the years. This year mine are all two-purples but without the ruffly ends. I thought they'd look lovely in between white hellebores. Ooops. Monomania. But I'm concentrating on the darker, saturated ones in the main. I'm dying to get some blue ones from Japan next year. I can't decide if I want to go to the whites or greens next. Whites, I think, because I've got four and where they are, under the camellia, they glow. One of the nice things is that hellebore flowers are not made of petals but of calyces/sepals, so the colors last, at our place, from late autumn to mid-spring. And the plants live a while, 20-25 years, so the wait is worth it. And once established, they are low maintenance. And finally, our place is shady for Nelson, so for all I know I can stick these babies in 2/3-3/4 of our property and they should do well.
